Alumni Clash with Government Over FGC Land Concession

The alumni of the Federal Government College (FGC) in Kano are in conflict with the government and developers over a plan to concession school land for private development. The land, valued at N36 billion, is situated within the school premises and is believed to be a prime location for commercial development.

Alumni representatives, including FGCKOSA President Shoyinka Shodunk, argue that ceding this land erodes the institution's legacy and exposes it to security risks. The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmad, supports the public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement, stating it is necessary to meet the growing infrastructure demands of the school.

However, alumni warn that the deal, which reportedly values the school project at N8.5 billion, is financially illogical and could lead to significant losses for potential investors. They have expressed strong opposition and are considering legal avenues to overturn the arrangement, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the school's heritage.
