UNICEF Urges Action to End FGM as Human Rights Violation in Nigeria

UNICEF highlighted Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) as a human rights issue affecting girls and women in Nigeria. Celine Lafoucriere of UNICEF emphasized the need to address FGM seriously to eradicate the harmful practice by 2030.

A media dialogue in Edo State brought together stakeholders to accelerate efforts to end FGM, with Nigeria ranking third globally in FGM prevalence. Over 20 million women and girls in Nigeria have been subjected to FGM.

Lafoucriere stressed that FGM violates the rights of women and girls, emphasizing the importance of ending this harmful practice through collective action and advocacy.
