Oyo State Ministry and UNICEF Partner to End FGM in Nigeria by 2030

The Oyo State Ministry of Information and Orientation, in partnership with UNICEF, is leading a campaign to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Nigeria by 2030. The initiative involves using schools as safe platforms to educate teachers, survivors, men, and community leaders to challenge harmful myths and protect the next generation.

Doris Akhere, a teacher at Wisdom High School in Igueben, Benin City, is actively involved in teaching students about the dangers of FGM, emphasizing the importance of saving lives and futures. Akhere's personal experience with FGM has fueled her urgency to fight against the practice.

The campaign aims to dispel misconceptions and promote awareness to eradicate FGM in Nigeria.
