UNICEF and Stakeholders Renew Push to End FGM in Nigeria - Urgent Action Needed for Women's Rights!

UNICEF and stakeholders in Nigeria have renewed efforts to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the country, describing it as a gross violation of women and girls' rights. UNICEF's Chief in Lagos, Celine Lafourcriere, emphasized the urgency to eliminate FGM, noting that nearly 20 million women and girls in Nigeria have undergone the practice.

Despite being outlawed, FGM persists due to cultural beliefs and myths. The collaboration between the government, civil society groups, and initiatives like the Movement for Good aims to bring about positive change and eradicate this harmful tradition.

Progress is already visible, but more work is needed to protect the health and rights of women and girls.
