RMAFC Resolves Niger Delta Oil Well Disputes Through Verification Process

The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), under the leadership of Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, has launched a significant initiative to address disputes over oil wells in the Niger Delta region.

The RMAFC has commenced a verification process involving the Inter-Agency Technical Committee (IATC) to resolve conflicts arising from the drilling of new oil and gas wells across affected oil-producing states. This exercise, which began on January 26 and is scheduled to run until January 30, 2026, aims to ensure the proper attribution of new oil and gas assets to the respective states.

The RMAFC, as mandated by the 1999 Constitution, is tasked with monitoring revenue accrual and distribution, including the equitable allocation of the 13% derivation fund among oil and gas-producing states. The verification process covers areas such as the Aneiz oil field in Delta State and extends to other states like Anambra, Imo, Ondo, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Cross River.

The RMAFC's commitment to transparency and fairness in revenue management underscores its role as an impartial arbiter in resolving ownership disputes over oil and gas resources.
