FG Warns Politicians Against Misconduct Ahead of Elections

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through Attorney General and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, issued a warning to politicians against engaging in electoral misconduct as the 2027 general elections approach. This warning was articulated during the annual conference of the Nigerian Association of Judiciary Correspondents (NAJUC) in Abuja.

Fagbemi stressed that the government would not tolerate violence or hate speech, urging the media to play a crucial role in shaping political behavior and ensuring a transparent electoral process. He highlighted the importance of patriotism and the need to protect the unity of the country.

Additionally, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) expressed concerns regarding the timely delivery of court judgments that could impact their electoral prospects. The ADC's lead counsel, Shuaibu Aruwa, requested the Chief Justice of Nigeria to expedite a judgment that could affect their leadership status.

The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to conducting free and fair elections, emphasizing the need for all stakeholders to act responsibly within the law.
