FIBA Confirms Dr Mustapha Abdullahi as NBBF President
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has officially affirmed Dr Mustapha Abdullahi as the president of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) for the 2026-2030 tenure. This confirmation was communicated by FIBA secretary-general Andreas Zagklis in a letter dated October 19, 2026, which congratulated Abdullahi and the newly elected board members.
The recognition is a result of the NBBF elective congress that took place on October 15, 2026, conducted in accordance with the federation's constitution and FIBA's statutes. FIBA expressed its commitment to good governance and transparent electoral processes among its member federations.
Additionally, the outgoing board, led by Engr Ahmadu Musa Kida, was commended for its contributions to the development of basketball in Nigeria. Abdullahi's presidency is anticipated to bring reforms aimed at improving basketball administration, grassroots development, domestic leagues, and athlete welfare, while also enhancing the competitiveness of national teams in continental and international competitions.
