D’Tigers Edge Guinea 80-79 in FIBA World Cup Qualifier

D’Tigers, Nigeria's national basketball team, secured their second consecutive victory in the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers by defeating Guinea 80-79. The match took place in Luanda, Angola.

Nigeria initially took control, leading 23-17 at the end of the first quarter and maintaining a 46-40 advantage at halftime. However, Guinea responded strongly in the third quarter, outscoring Nigeria 28-16 and seizing a six-point lead heading into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, Nigeria tightened their defense, limiting Guinea to just 11 points while scoring 18 themselves, ultimately clinching a dramatic one-point victory. Caleb Agada was a standout player, finishing with a game-high 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including three three-pointers.

Head coach David Fizdale emphasized the team's resilience, especially after recovering from a tough third quarter. D’Tigers now need to win three more matches to enhance their chances of qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar.
