Fielding Atiku as Presidential Candidate in 2023 Was a Mistake – Abba Moro

Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro criticized the decision to field former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate for the PDP in the 2023 general election, calling it a mistake. Moro highlighted that presenting a northern candidate like Atiku went against political zoning considerations and weakened the party's chances, ultimately leading to defeat.

Atiku lost to President Bola Tinubu of the APC in the election. Moro mentioned ongoing discussions within the party about the possible return of former members like Peter Obi, who left for the Labour Party in 2023.

There is also speculation about former President Goodluck Jonathan returning to contest. Moro emphasized the need to rectify the error of fielding Atiku in 2023 and expressed hope for a stronger strategy in future elections.
