Super Eagles Drop in Africa, Retain 26th in FIFA Rankings

In the latest FIFA Men's World Rankings released on Monday, Nigeria's Super Eagles retained their global position at 26th but slipped to fourth among African nations. The rankings reflect performances during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Super Eagles faced a friendly match against Portugal, resulting in a 2-1 defeat.

Despite this loss not affecting their overall world ranking, it contributed to Nigeria's decline in the African standings. Egypt's impressive World Cup campaign, where they reached the Round of 16 before narrowly losing to Argentina, allowed them to climb to third place in Africa.

Morocco remains the highest-ranked African team, having reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup. Senegal holds the second position in Africa, despite dropping three places globally, while Algeria rounds out the top five African teams.

The next FIFA Men's World Rankings will be published on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, providing an opportunity for teams to improve their standings.
