Super Eagles Maintain FIFA Ranking Amid World Cup Changes

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have retained their status as the third highest-ranked team in Africa and 26th in the world according to the latest FIFA rankings released just hours before the kickoff of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. Despite not qualifying for the World Cup, Coach Eric Chell's output over the last 18 months indicates steady progress for the team.

Nigeria remains behind Morocco and Senegal in the African rankings. The Super Eagles had an impressive performance in the last Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in January and also held Poland to a draw in a recent international friendly.

However, they ended a 12-match unbeaten run with a 2-1 defeat to Portugal in a warm-up game. The latest rankings show Argentina leapfrogging France to become the new number one team globally, while Nigeria's ranking reflects a climb to their highest FIFA position in five years.
