FIFA Defends Investment Plan Amid UEFA Boycott Threat

FIFA has responded to criticism regarding its proposed private investment plan, emphasizing its intention to continue an "open and democratic" consultation with stakeholders. UEFA has indicated a willingness to boycott the World Cup over the proposal to establish a commercial subsidiary for FIFA's major events, allowing private investors to acquire stakes.

In its statement, FIFA reassured that "nobody is selling football" and that it would never entertain such an idea. FIFA acknowledged the concerns raised by confederations, including UEFA and CONCACAF, and reiterated its commitment to a transparent consultation process.

The organization stated that previous media reports had disrupted this process and affirmed that each of its 211 member associations would have the opportunity to vote based on accurate information. The proposed plan could potentially raise up to $20 billion for the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) initiative, with each member association receiving a one-off payment ranging from $8 million to $20 million if approved.
