ICPC Files Charges Against Former Kaduna Governor el-Rufai

The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) has formally filed multiple charges against Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, for various offenses including money laundering and abuse of office. El-Rufai is scheduled to be arraigned in a Kaduna court on March 24, 2026, following his arrest on February 18, 2026.

He was initially detained for two weeks for investigation, which was extended until March 18, 2026. The charges against him are part of a broader investigation that also involves Joel Adoga and Amadu Sule Leda, with allegations ranging from possession of public property to fraud.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja recently granted the ICPC permission to access and analyze electronic devices seized from el-Rufai's residence, which includes various mobile phones and storage devices. El-Rufai has maintained his innocence, claiming that the charges are politically motivated.
