ICPC to Arraign Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai Today

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) will arraign former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai today, March 24, 2026, in the Federal High Court, Kaduna, under suit number FHC/KD/73/2026. The charges against El-Rufai include conversion and possession of public property and money laundering.

The ICPC has faced mounting pressure from stakeholders, including the African Democratic Congress, demanding the immediate release and arraignment of El-Rufai, who has been detained without formal charges, which they argue violates constitutional rights. The ICPC has also filed separate charges against El-Rufai in the Kaduna State High Court, including abuse of office and fraud.

El-Rufai was initially detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and granted bail on February 18, 2026, but was taken into custody by the ICPC thereafter. The ICPC has reaffirmed its commitment to due process and the rule of law.
