ICPC to Arraign Nasir El-Rufai for Corruption Charges

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) will arraign former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai on March 24, 2026, at the Federal High Court in Kaduna. The charges against El-Rufai include conversion and possession of public property and money laundering.

This decision follows significant pressure from stakeholders, including the African Democratic Congress, which has called for his immediate release, arguing that his continued detention without formal charges violates constitutional rights. Additionally, the Muslim Rights Concern has condemned his prolonged detention.

El-Rufai's family and security agency members have expressed concerns regarding the situation. The ICPC has also filed separate charges against him in the Kaduna State High Court, which include abuse of office and fraud.

El-Rufai was initially detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on February 16, 2026, granted bail on February 18, and was immediately rearrested by the ICPC.
