Nigeria's Finance Minister Advocates for Regional Tax Cooperation

On a courtesy visit to the West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF) led by its Executive Secretary Jule Tapsoba Sulio, Nigeria's Finance Minister Mr. Taiwo Oyedele urged for stronger regional tax cooperation to enhance administrative reforms and improve compliance with the ECOWAS tax directives.

Oyedele commended WATAF for its significant role in strengthening tax administration since its establishment in 2011 and called for proactive monitoring of regional tax agreements. He challenged WATAF to broaden its benchmarking initiatives to identify and promote best practices in tax administration, including digital taxation and tax policy reforms.

Sulio congratulated Oyedele on his appointment and reaffirmed WATAF's commitment to supporting Nigeria in strengthening its tax system. He acknowledged Nigeria's long-standing support for WATAF and its critical role in the forum's growth, emphasizing the need for deeper collaboration in domestic revenue mobilization and digital transformation to sustain economic growth across West Africa.
