Fintiri Defects to APC; Atiku's Son Declines to Follow

On Friday, October 20, 2023, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri announced his defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a statewide broadcast. This move included 22 out of 24 commissioners from his cabinet.

Notably, Adamu Atiku, the son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, chose not to follow his father’s political trajectory and did not join the APC. Adamu is currently involved with the Energy Development Commission and the Livestock Commission.

His name was notably absent from the list of defectors. The PDP, led by Tanimu Turaki, condemned Fintiri's defection, labeling it as cowardice and a violation of political principles.

The party emphasized that such actions undermine Nigeria's multi-party democracy and questioned the integrity of politicians who abandon their platforms for personal gain.
