Emma Finucane Wins Historic Fourth Gold at Commonwealth Games

Emma Finucane has made Commonwealth history by becoming the first sprint cyclist to win four track gold medals at the same Commonwealth Games. Competing in Glasgow, she added a gold in the keirin to her previous wins in the team sprint, individual sprint, and 1,000m time trial.

Finucane's achievements occurred over four consecutive days at the Chris Hoy Velodrome. Olympic champion Ellesse Andrews finished second, unable to defend her Commonwealth keirin title.

Previously, Aaron Gate from New Zealand had won four gold medals in Birmingham in 2022, with three on the track and one in the road race. Finucane, at 23 years old, is also the first Welsh woman to win four golds at a single Commonwealth Games and has become Wales’ most successful female athlete in Games history, surpassing Para-sprinter Olivia Breen.

Weightlifter David Morgan remains the most successful Commonwealth Games athlete from Wales with nine golds and three silvers. Finucane's victories contributed to Wales’ total of 31 medals at the Games, which includes nine gold, 10 silver, and 12 bronze.
