Fire Destroys Offices and Documents at Kwara College of Education in Late-Night Outbreak

On January 30, 2026, a fire engulfed part of Kwara State College of Education in Ilorin, destroying offices and valuable property. The incident occurred around 9:14 p.m., prompting an emergency response from the Kwara State Fire Service.

The fire affected structures housing offices mainly used for storing sensitive materials, causing concern among staff and students. Fortunately, firefighting efforts prevented the inferno from spreading to nearby academic facilities, including laboratory buildings on the campus.

The fire service successfully saved important documents, files, journals, and records from further damage. The Director of Kwara State Fire Service, CF Alabi Muham, advised the public to avoid indiscriminate burning of bushes to prevent such incidents.

Additionally, a recent fire incident at Owod Market in Offa claimed the life of a 73-year-old man, Pastor Awolola, who allegedly set fire to undergrowth on farmland in the Irewoled area of Ilorin.
