Fire Incident in Kwara State Damages Residential Building

On Sunday, a fire broke out at approximately 12:38 AM on Tewo Gbore Street in the Eyenkorin area of Asa Local Government Area, Kwara State, affecting a residential building that included a room, parlour, and a self-contained two-bedroom flat. Hassan Adekunle, spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, reported that firefighters responded swiftly to a distress call, successfully containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by improperly quenched charcoal that had been recently unloaded and was exposed to air, reigniting and exacerbating the situation. Alabi Muham, Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, warned charcoal dealers about the dangers of careless handling and storage of combustible materials, which can retain heat.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any fire outbreaks to emergency response agencies. This incident follows a recent major fire that destroyed 24 shops at the Mandate Ultra Modern Market in Ilorin on May 12.
