Fire Service Launches Medical Scheme, Raises Staff Loan Limit to ₦500,000

The Federal Fire Service has introduced a Medical Intervention Scheme and expanded its interest-free loan facility for staff members, raising the maximum borrowing amount from ₦300,000 to ₦500,000. Controller-General Olumode Samuel Adeyemi announced these personnel welfare initiatives on Tuesday during the inauguration of new Quarter Guard facilities at the Service's National Headquarters in Wuse, Abuja, and at the Wuse Area Command.

Adeyemi, who assumed office one year ago, stated that improving staff welfare formed a cornerstone of his administration's agenda. The Controller-General added that his focus on personnel conditions had motivated officers to voluntarily contribute resources toward Service projects, including the newly constructed Quarter Guard buildings unveiled at the two locations.

Beyond welfare measures, Adeyemi reported progress on operational challenges that had hindered the Service's emergency response capacity. The administration has addressed longstanding shortages in water and fuel supply, constraints that had previously limited the Service's ability to respond promptly to fire emergencies across the country.

The CG described these operational improvements as essential to restoring public confidence in the Service's core mandate of protecting lives and property. The initiatives reflect a broader repositioning of the Federal Fire Service under Adeyemi's leadership.

The introduction of medical coverage and enhanced loan facilities represents an attempt to strengthen retention and morale among personnel, while infrastructure investments and supply-chain improvements target the operational gaps that have affected emergency response times. The Service now operates with improved resource availability and expanded support mechanisms for its workforce.
