Nigerian Fire Service Saves 2,106 Lives and ₦934.7 Billion Property in 2025

The Nigerian Fire Service disclosed that they saved 2,106 lives and property valued at ₦934.7 billion in various fire incidents across Nigeria in 2025. Deputy Controller General Ijeoma Achi Okidi, in charge of policy planning, research, and statistics, made this information available to journalists in Abuja.

The year's review revealed a total of 1,866 fire incidents, resulting in 114 lives lost and 198 citizens injured. The statistics further detailed that private residences had the highest number of fires at 693, followed by government offices at 444.

Market fires led to a loss of ₦22.27 billion, with private residences and public government buildings following closely. Electrical issues were identified as the leading cause of fire incidents, with power surges, overloads, and wire faults contributing to nearly 70% of the fires recorded that year.
