Fire Disrupts Communication at Lagos Airport, Flights Suspended

On Monday, a fire incident at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos caused significant damage to communication equipment used for air-ground communication. Engr.

Umar Ahm Farouk, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), disclosed that the situation necessitated a temporary suspension of flights at the airport. Backup facilities were promptly activated, ensuring that services were restored within minutes.

Following the incident, Engr. Farouk visited the remote control tower, which was temporarily closed, and inspected ongoing work at the site.

He confirmed that a mobile control tower would be installed as a permanent communication center. Although the extent of the damage to the equipment could not be easily quantified, he assured that the country's airspace remains safe for aircraft movement.

Engr. Farouk commended the bravery of air traffic control personnel who managed the emergency situation effectively.
