Fire at Lagos Airport Leads to Temporary Shutdown

On Monday night, a fire incident occurred at the old terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, prompting a temporary shutdown of the airfield. Mr.

Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), confirmed that the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. The incident affected terminal operations, leading to the diversion of three international flights to Abuja and Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) temporarily closed the airspace but later reopened it after mobilizing a control tower. Kuku assured that emergency procedures were followed and that there were no fatalities, although three individuals sustained injuries and were stabilized at a hospital.

The airport management is coordinating with various agencies to ensure safety and control of the situation, with plans for rehabilitation of the terminal already in place.
