NAMA Addresses Mobile Tower Delay at Lagos Airport

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) clarified the reasons behind the delay in deploying a mobile control tower at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, following a fire incident that affected the main aerodrome control tower. Dr.

Abdullahi Musa, Director of Public Affairs, stated that the delay is not due to inactivity but is necessary to fully comply with aviation engineering safety standards. NAMA has activated contingency measures to ensure uninterrupted air navigation services.

The agency began preparations for the mobile control tower to temporarily restore operations while the main tower is being repaired. The selected site for the mobile tower requires excavation and concrete casting to create a stable foundation capable of supporting the tower and its equipment.

NAMA emphasized that the installation must adhere to strict engineering operational standards to avoid safety risks. The contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Company, advised against premature installation until the foundation is fully settled.

NAMA assured that air traffic services at the airport remain uninterrupted during this interim period.
