Fenchurch Group Revives 26MW Power Plant in Lagos

Fenchurch Group has initiated the rebuilding of the idle 26-megawatt Akute Independent Power Plant in Lagos, as announced by Biodun Ogunleye, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources. The project aims to provide dedicated electricity to major waterworks that serve between four and six million residents.
Work commenced on September 26 with the decommissioning of the existing engines, and the project will be executed through Fenchurch Power Limited, involving the installation of new MWM gas engines. The project will be completed in two phases: the first phase of 10MW is expected within four months, while the remaining 16MW will be completed within 12 months.
Financing is provided by Zenith Bank. The plant will supply electricity to the Akute intake and the Iju and Adiyan waterworks, with excess power exported to Ikeja Electric’s network.
Olufemi Bakare, Group Chief Executive Officer of Fenchurch Group, emphasized the importance of reliable electricity for the state’s water infrastructure. The project aligns with the Lagos State Government's rehabilitation efforts at the Iju Headworks and Akute Intake Station.
