Nigeria's Government Launches 50MW Power Project in Abuja

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a plan to boost power supply to industrial clusters, initiating a 50-megawatt project at the Idu Industrial Estate in Abuja. This project aims to deliver round-the-clock electricity to manufacturers, addressing energy constraints that hinder factory operations and increase production costs.

Owan Enoh, the Minister of State for Industry, emphasized that reliable electricity is vital for the government's industrialization agenda, which focuses on expanding local production, promoting value addition, and diversifying the economy. Enoh stated that increasing domestic production would create jobs, particularly for the youth, reduce reliance on imports, and conserve foreign exchange.

He described the Idu project as a practical intervention that could be replicated in other industrial clusters. Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, noted the government's shift towards captive and decentralized generation as part of its electricity strategy.

This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu's goal of expanding the economy to $1 trillion through enhanced productivity and industrialization.
