AfricaGTC Launches FlareOut Project to Combat Gas Flaring

Africa Gas Transport Company Limited (AfricaGTC), a Nigerian subsidiary of Dutch clean-energy firm Energy Ventures B.V., is initiating the FlareOut project to tackle Nigeria's gas flaring crisis. The company is deploying a modular technology designed to convert flared gas into clean energy while generating carbon credit revenues to enhance project viability.

A pilot of the FlareOut solution will be launched at the Agbada-2 site near Port Harcourt, focusing on capturing and processing associated gas that has long caused environmental and economic issues in the Niger Delta. The FlareOut system, housed in a standard shipping container, aims to convert gas from small-scale flaring sites into Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving energy access in underserved communities.

Herbert Okibe, director of AfricaGTC, emphasized the importance of partnerships to demonstrate the conversion of flared gas into economic value. Jessica Essien, Managing Director of Afrinvest Capital, highlighted the goal of attracting energy stakeholders to the FlareOut investment opportunity.

Nigeria currently flares an estimated seven to eight billion cubic meters of gas annually.
