Energy Ventures B.V. to Generate Power from Flaring Gas

Energy Ventures B.V. has secured support from the Federal Government to harness flared gas in the Niger Delta, with the goal of generating electricity for approximately 80,000 homes and businesses, potentially benefiting nearly 500,000 people. Herbert Okibe, the Chief Executive Officer, stated that the project received favorable responses from the Bureau of Public Enterprises and the Ministry of Power.

The initiative, which has a pilot project at the Agbada oil field, aims to convert wasted gas into electricity, thereby reducing pollution from gas flaring. The project will utilize modularised “FlareOut” units developed by FB Group in the Netherlands, which will be digitally connected for remote diagnostics.

The company plans to deploy smart meters to ensure transparent electricity usage data. Community engagement has been positive, involving traditional rulers and local officials.

Security measures include high-quality fencing and armed protection. Okibe noted that recent electricity regulations have created opportunities for the project, which could serve as a model for over 100 other flare sites in Nigeria.
