FIRS Clarifies Tax Identification Number Process for Nigerians Amid New Tax Law

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in Nigeria has clarified the process for obtaining Tax Identification Numbers (TIN) for Nigerians. According to the announcement, individuals who have registered businesses will no longer need a separate TIN as the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number will serve as the official tax identifier.

This clarification follows the implementation of a new tax system mandated by the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, effective January 2026. The FIRS emphasized the need for the public to disregard misinformation and assured that the new tax framework aims to improve efficiency, transparency, and tax compliance.
