Nigeria's Flamingos Triumph at WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup

Nigeria’s Flamingos, under the leadership of coach Akeem Busari, secured the WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup by winning all five matches in the tournament held in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire. They concluded their campaign with a decisive 4-0 victory against Togo in the final, where captain Harmony Chidi scored two first-half penalties, followed by goals from Oluebube Umejiaku and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi in the 67th and 90th minutes, respectively.

Throughout the tournament, the Flamingos demonstrated exceptional performance, scoring a total of 17 goals and conceding only two. Their journey included a 5-0 win over Niger Republic, a 4-2 victory against Ghana, and 2-0 wins against Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire.

Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, commended the team's achievements and expressed confidence in their potential for success at the upcoming FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco next month. The Flamingos, who previously won a bronze medal at the 2022 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, are expected to return to Nigeria on Tuesday.
