Flash Floods Displace Families in Yobe State Communities

Heavy rainfall and subsequent flash floods have severely affected multiple communities in Yobe State, specifically in Damaturu, Nguru, Machina, and Bursari Local Government Areas. The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) issued a report on Sunday detailing distress reports received from community stakeholders and local authorities.

Verified affected communities include Moduri, Abbari Sabon Kwalta, Malari Sabon Kwalta, Pompomari, Sumsumma, Nayinawa in Damaturu LGA; New Side, Best Center, Balanguwa Road in Nguru LGA; and Turbangini, Dinani/Lawanti Ward in Bursari LGA, as well as Alhaji Madi Street, Hausari, and Machina town in Machina LGA. Preliminary observations indicate significant damage to residential structures, with the exact number of affected households and displaced persons still under verification.

SEMA has committed to releasing detailed findings to facilitate timely intervention and recovery support, while urging residents to adhere to safety measures during the rainy season.
