Flash Floods Impact Yobe Communities, SEMA Responds

On Saturday, a significant downpour triggered flash floods in Damaturu, Nguru, Machina, and Bursari local government areas of Yobe State, leading to damage to residential buildings and prompting an emergency response from the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). The Flash Incident Report No. 4, issued by SEMA on August 2, 2026, indicated that the agency received distress reports from community leaders and local authorities regarding the flooding.

The most affected areas in Damaturu included Moduri, Abbari Sabon Kwalta, Malari Sabon Kwalta, Pompomari, Sumsumma, and Nayinawa. In Nguru, flooding was reported around New Side Best Centre and Balanguwa Road, affecting nine wards.

SEMA has deployed a Rapid Assessment Team to evaluate the situation and determine immediate humanitarian needs. This incident follows warnings from NiMet and NIHSA about above-normal rainfall and increased flood risk in Yobe State, urging residents in flood-prone areas to take precautions.
