Anambra Government Issues Flood Alert, Urges Safety Measures

The Anambra State government has issued a flood alert to residents following a forecast from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, which identified Anambra as one of the states likely to experience above-normal flooding this year due to its location within the Delta belt. This information was disclosed in a press statement released on Tuesday by Law Mefor, the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, and Dr Clem Aguiyi, the Commissioner for Environment.

The government is taking proactive steps to mitigate the anticipated flooding's impact and has called on residents to prioritize their safety during the rainy season. The statement advises residents to remain vigilant, take the NiMET prediction seriously, avoid unnecessary movements during heavy downpours, and take necessary precautions, including relocating from flood-prone areas and seeking help during emergencies.

The government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and solicited maximum cooperation from the public.
