Anambra First Lady Urges Flood Precautions Amid Heavy Rains

Dr Nonye Soludo, the First Lady of Anambra State, called on residents to adopt greater precautionary measures in response to ongoing flooding affecting various communities. In a statement issued in Awka, she expressed concern over the rising flood situation, particularly for families in flood-prone areas.

She advised residents to remain vigilant, heed weather warnings, avoid crossing flooded roads, and relocate to safer areas when necessary. Soludo emphasized the importance of maintaining clean surroundings and avoiding refuse disposal in drainage channels to prevent blockages that exacerbate flooding.

She urged parents to keep children away from dangerous areas during heavy rainfall and called for increased community awareness and collective responsibility. Following two days of torrential rain, significant flooding occurred, submerging homes, roads, and schools.

The Anambra State Police Command reported that a schoolchild was missing, while seven schoolchildren and two adults were rescued after a shuttle bus was overturned by floodwaters on the Nibo–Isiagu Road.
