NEMA Alerts Anambra Communities on Flood Preparedness

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has issued a warning to residents of riverine communities in Anambra State regarding the rising water levels of the River Niger, advising them to be prepared to relocate to higher ground. This warning was delivered by Priscilla Madukwe, the Head of NEMA’s Enugu Operations Office, during a monitoring visit to the National Inland Waterways Authority in Onitsha on Friday.

The visit aimed to assess the flood situation and strengthen disaster preparedness in the state. Madukwe noted that while the water level is gradually rising, it remains within safe limits at this time.

She emphasized the importance of early preparedness and urged residents to heed official information from emergency management authorities. The monitoring exercise is part of a proactive approach by NEMA, in collaboration with the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency and the Nigerian Red Cross Society, to track developments around the River Niger and provide early warning information to potentially affected communities.
