FMAFS and NIMC Partner to Enhance Farmer Identification

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, led by Minister Sen. Abubakar Kyari, is working to strengthen its partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to enhance genuine farmers' identification and food sovereignty in Nigeria. During a courtesy visit by a NIMC delegation led by Director General Engr. Abisoy Coker Odusote in Abuja, Kyari emphasized the importance of this collaboration in ensuring that agricultural grants and interventions reach legitimate farmers, thereby eliminating leakage and enhancing sustainable food security.

The ministry has already begun deploying NIMC's identification management infrastructure to identify genuine beneficiaries of its intervention programs. The initiative aims to improve transparency and increase participation among women and youth in agriculture.

Engr. Odusote highlighted the critical role of agriculture in Nigeria's economy and the need for a robust identification system to reduce fraud and ensure public resources are directed to farmers in genuine need.
