FG and NIMC Collaborate to Enhance Mining Sector Security

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to strengthen transparency and security in the mining sector. This initiative involves deploying a digital identity infrastructure to enhance regulatory oversight and improve the tracking of mining operations.

Dr. Dele Alak, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, emphasized the importance of a credible identity management system for effective governance and regulatory compliance.

He stated that ongoing reforms in the solid minerals sector require stronger collaboration with institutions like NIMC to improve transparency and accountability across the mining value chain. Dr.

Abisoy Coker-Odusote, the Director General of NIMC, noted that the recent enactment of the NIMC Act 2026 positions Nigeria to fully embrace a digital governance ecosystem. This partnership is expected to facilitate the integration of databases across government institutions, thereby enhancing law enforcement and monitoring of mining operations.
