NIMC Expands Digital Identity in Agriculture and Education

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is intensifying its efforts to expand the use of digital identity across critical sectors of Nigeria's economy, including agriculture, education, and business. This initiative was discussed during a meeting with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, where Minister Abubakar Kyari emphasized the importance of reliable identification for agricultural interventions.

The partnership aims to ensure that government support reaches legitimate farmers and entrepreneurs, thereby reducing leakage in support programs. NIMC's Director General, Engr.

Abisoy Coker Odusot, highlighted the significance of the recently enacted NIMC Act in strengthening the commission's mandate. Additionally, the NIMC is collaborating with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to enhance business identification verification and improve digital transactions.

CAC Registrar General Hussaini Ishaq Magaji expressed readiness to work with NIMC to combat financial crime and improve corporate registration processes. NIMC's database currently contains 120.6 million enrolled citizens, making it the largest identity database in Africa.
