Nasiru Gawuna Resigns as FMBN Chairman Ahead of Elections

Nasiru Gawuna, the former governorship candidate for the APC in Kano State, has officially resigned from his position as chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), effective March 31, 2026. His resignation follows a directive from President Bola Tinubu, which requires political appointees to step down in compliance with the Electoral Act ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Gawuna expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in various capacities, including his previous role as pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing council at Bayero University, Kano. He described his tenure as a privilege that allowed him to contribute to the development of the bank and the country.

Gawuna emphasized his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition of responsibilities in line with established procedures before his resignation. He also formally resigned from his membership in the APC, having previously contested the governorship election in 2023, where he received 890,705 votes against the incumbent governor Abba Yusuf, who won with 1,019,602 votes.
