FMN Hosts Minister to Boost Domestic Sugar Production

Flour Mills Nigeria Plc (FMN) hosted Senator John Owan Enoh, the Minister of State for Industry, Trade, and Investment, at the Sunti Golden Sugar Estate (SGSE) in Niger State. This visit highlighted the federal government's renewed commitment to accelerating Nigeria's agricultural industrialization and reducing dependence on sugar imports.

The Sunti Golden Sugar Estate, which spans 21,500 hectares with 3,700 hectares currently cultivated, was inaugurated in 2016 and has a current production capacity of 600,000 tons of cane per season, with plans to expand to 1,000,000 tons. During the visit, the minister commended FMN for its substantial investments in backward integration programs, which align with the National Sugar Master Plan (NSMP).

The estate employs 4,500 workers and aims to transform socio-economic conditions across 28 host communities. The minister emphasized the need for continuous monitoring to ensure the success of the backward integration program and the expansion of sugarcane cultivation.
