ADC Condemns Attempted Arrest of Nasir El-Rufai

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) issued a statement on Friday condemning the attempted arrest of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai at the airport by security personnel. The party, represented by its national publicity secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, expressed concern over reports indicating that security operatives intended to detain El-Rufai without presenting a warrant.

The ADC emphasized that no one is above the law and that actions against political figures must adhere strictly to constitutional provisions and due process. The statement described the incident as a dangerous signal indicating a procedural lapse, particularly when involving opposition figures.

The ADC further alleged that such incidents reflect a troubling pattern of selective enforcement under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, where opposition politicians face increased scrutiny and pressure. The party criticized the double standards in the government's anti-corruption fight and urged law enforcement agencies to remain professional and uphold constitutional standards, warning against the deployment of state coercive power for perceived partisan purposes.
