Tuggar to Resign as Foreign Affairs Minister for Governorship

Foreign Affairs Minister Tuggar is expected to resign from Bola Tinubu's cabinet to pursue a governorship bid for Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 elections. This move follows a directive from President Tinubu, who required cabinet members to inform the public regarding their political ambitions.

The announcement was made by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) on Tuesday. Tuggar's anticipated resignation comes in the wake of the recently concluded 2026 national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he was a member of the national working committee.

Although he has not formally declared his intent to run, there is growing political support for his candidacy. Tuggar previously served as a member of the House of Representatives for the Gamawa Federal Constituency from 2007 to 2011 and was Nigeria's ambassador to Germany from 2017 to 2023, having been appointed as Foreign Affairs Minister by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
