Tuggar Resigns from Foreign Affairs to Contest Bauchi Governorship

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the resignation of Tuggar, a 59-year-old Nigerian diplomat and former ambassador to Germany. His resignation was officially communicated by the ministry's spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, during a chat with diplomats in Abuja.

Tuggar submitted his resignation letter to President Bola Tinubu, fulfilling a presidential directive that requires political appointees seeking elected positions to resign. This resignation is effective from March 31, 2026, in accordance with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which aims to prevent conflicts of interest ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
