Awoniyi Set for Coventry Transfer After Forest Farewell

Nottingham Forest bid farewell to striker Taiwo Awoniyi on Sunday as the club confirmed his imminent transfer to newly promoted Premier League side Coventry City for a fee of about £17 million. The deal was agreed upon on Saturday, and Coventry aims to finalize it before their opening match against Arsenal on Friday.

Awoniyi, who became Forest’s then-record signing when he joined from Union Berlin in 2022 for £17.2 million, scored 23 goals in 103 appearances. However, he fell behind Chris Wood and Igor Jesus in the pecking order and was excluded from Forest’s Europa League squad last season, starting only three games and scoring four goals in 17 appearances.

In May 2025, he suffered a serious injury that placed him in an induced coma after rupturing his intestine during a match against Leicester City. Coventry City is enhancing their squad ahead of their Premier League return, having also signed several players, including Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka.
