Shekarau Resigns from PDP, Effective April 19, 2026

Ibrahim Shekarau, the former Governor of Kano State, has announced his resignation from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately. The resignation letter, dated April 19, 2026, was addressed to the PDP chairman of Giginyu Ward in Nassarawa Local Government Area, Kano State.

In his letter, Shekarau indicated that his decision followed extensive consultations within his political camp and was part of a strategic realignment in pursuit of his political career, which he believes may lead him to different political parties. He expressed gratitude towards the leadership of the PDP at the ward level and thanked the party for its support, praying for continued guidance in their stewardship.

A copy of the resignation letter was also sent to the Kano State PDP chairman, serving as formal notification across the party's structure.
