Ibrahim Shekarau Resigns from PDP, Joins New Party

Ibrahim Shekarau, the former governor of Kano State, officially announced his resignation from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) on April 19, 2026. In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP chairman of Giginyu Ward in Nassarawa LGA, Shekarau requested the acceptance of his resignation, effective immediately.

His decision follows extensive deliberations within his political group as he seeks to advance his political career with a different party. Shekarau expressed gratitude towards the leadership of the PDP and invoked divine guidance for his future endeavors.

The letter was also copied to the Kano PDP chairman, indicating a potential shift in his political alignment ahead of the upcoming 2027 elections.
