Former Nigerian Minister Faces Multi-Million-Pound Corruption Trial in London

Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former Nigerian Petroleum Minister, is undergoing a major corruption trial in London for alleged involvement in large-scale bribery and corruption activities during her time in office from 2010 to 2015. The trial, set to last 10-12 weeks, accuses her of accepting bribes, luxury accommodations, household staff expenses, and other financial advantages from energy firms. Prosecutors claim these benefits influenced the awarding of multi-million-pound oil and gas contracts in Nigeria. Alison-Madueke, the first female president of OPEC, faces multiple criminal charges related to corruption.

Alison-Madueke, who denies all allegations, began her career in architecture before joining Shell's Nigerian operations and later transitioning into politics. She served as a minister under former President Goodluck Jonathan and became the OPEC president in 2014. The case also involves two other defendants facing bribery-related charges.
