Umar Ajiya Joins Sokoto East Senatorial Race for 2027

Umar Ajiya, the former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has announced his entry into the Sokoto East Senatorial District race for the 2027 general elections. His declaration was made public through a statement issued by the Sokoto Ajiya Coordinating Committee, led by Nasiru Yahaya, the committee's chairman.

Ajiya will contest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has expressed his commitment to serving the people of Sokoto East, which encompasses eight local government areas: Sabon Birni, Gada, Goronyo, Wurno, Rabah, Illela, and Gwadabawa. He has called for intensified voter registration and has engaged in consultations with elders, youth, women’s groups, traditional rulers, and APC stakeholders to gauge support.

Ajiya emphasized that his candidacy is driven by a sincere commitment to community service and not personal ambition, and he seeks to unite the district for progress.
