Jonathan Meets Tinubu Amid 2027 Election Speculation

Former President Goodluck Jonathan met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, on Sunday, a meeting that has generated political speculation ahead of the 2027 general election. The discussions were private, with no official statements released by either the Presidency or Jonathan.

This meeting coincides with Jonathan's name being prominently mentioned in political circles following a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Turaki, attempting to nominate him as its presidential candidate for the upcoming election. Jonathan has not publicly accepted or rejected this nomination.

The Turaki-led faction claimed to have submitted Jonathan's nomination to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), but INEC invalidated it, stating that nominations must be made through its designated online portal. INEC's Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, confirmed this position.

Despite the rejection, the Turaki group defended its submission and accused INEC of bias in the internal party crisis.
